Module 6 End of Learning 2.0 program My thoughts
I enjoyed the program. I was familiar with a number of the new applications but this program made me stop and really look at them, actually try some of them out for the first time. The program ran for an ideal length of time for me with my other commitments, meetings, desk, training, lifelong learning etc etc. Any longer and it would have been too onerous to fit in.
Clearly there are plenty of opportunities for libraries to incorporate some of the initiatives. It has given me ideas for my own area of collection responsibility. Twitter for quick information provision to the user group for example to let them know that bookings are open for a particular event. Before this I wasn't convinced about the usefulness of a blog having started one a few years ago and ending up doing almost all the posts myself after initial enthusiasm waned with other contributors but now I want one for the public.
Thanks to the Divisional Training and Development Team (especially Leanne, Carmen and Berta) for setting up, supporting and adapting the program to our needs. It has been a good way to keep up with the changing technological world in which we find ourselves in libraries and in society!

Module 5 : Photos & Videos -Flickr and YouTube
I chose to look at images and videos that were of personal or work interest to me. I think that both Flickr and YouTube have many applications for libraries. Like the idea of using YouTube for podcasts of events and oral history recordings.

Module 4 Tags, Del.ico.us and Library Thing
As someone who likes consistency and standardisation I find it difficult to accept the unorthodox nature of tagging, also opportunity for spelling errors etc however having tried out a number of genealogy/family history tags can see potential for their usefulness.
Set up my own Library Thing account and added a title I have just read to my catalogue.

Module 3 Podcasts
I took the opportunity to listen again to the Library podcast of Professor Alistair Thomson of Monash University giving the 2008 Don Grant Lecture on the topic Moving Stories, part of Family History Feast 2008.
Alistair is a superb speaker who has a strong interest in oral history. He uses these techniques to great effect in this talk when he catches up with four English women who migrated to Australia in the 1960s. A moving and poignant presentation.
Podcasts are already being used extensively in libraries and archives for example The National Archives in London. I am keen that the Library investigates ways to add the complementary powerpoint slides to our podcasts. This is often requested by members of the public but so far hasn't happened.

Module 3 : RSS feeds etc
Excellent way to easily and efficiently keep up to date with whats happening in specific subject areas e.g. genealogy as well as for personal areas of interest eg. entertainment and news. Have used previously and am well aware of how useful rss feeds can be. Huge potential for libraries.
